Owen is from the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Before beginning his Master’s of Science in Environmental Science, he attended the University of Victoria where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Geography.
Owen has worked as a fishing guide for 6 seasons on both Northern Vancouver Island and the Central Coast of British Columbia. This work, as well as his personal interest in recreational fisheries, led to his desire to research climate changes’ increasing impact on anadromous fish populations and migration patterns and the resulting effect on recreational fishing opportunities in parks and protected areas in British Columbia. He began the MSc in Environmental Science program in Fall 2025 under the supervision of Courtney Mason.
